Rescue Helping Rescue?

On Mon, 21 Nov 2011

Hello, I know of 5 Pitbulls or terrier type dogs that will be pit down in the next few days if nobody steps forward to help them. I have met them and they are amazing, sweet and definitely do not deserve the fate that is awaiting them :(

I have pictures of them all if you would like to see them. Please help them!

Hi E

Thank you for your email and wanting to help these dogs, but you'll have to send us much more information.

Kind Regards,

L

Hi L,

We are working on it on our own now. These dogs do not have time to be seen, assesed and decided upon. Our rescue is one of the only ones who will go see dogs and take them right away.

Thanks,

E

Hi E,

“We” who? What rescue? Not sure why you bothered to email us in the first place then...

That’s great that you have unlimited room in foster care and resources to deal with all kinds of behavior issues. Really nice to hear that there are rescues that have no regard for ensuring only pit bull type dogs with stable temperaments are being made available to the public. You must not be worried about all the personal liability that is involved with rescuing dogs in regards to the DOLA (or maybe you have a really great lawyer on speed dial).

Our rescue however, believes in QUALITY over QUANTITY and though we’d love to be able to pull dogs at a moments notice, we understand that there are limits to what we are able to accomplish. Our rescue is built on extremely high standards (and we have the track record to prove it) and we strongly believe that any pit bull type dog that is not super friendly with people is not suitable for adoption.

Excuse us for wanting, as a RESPONSIBLE rescue, to assess dogs before placing them in family foster home environments with other dogs, children, etc.

Best,
L

p.s. See how that works? We can be snotty too!

Considering the adoption option...or not...

From: Marcus

Well I must say I am glad that this organization is there for these animals, but it seems a little easier for me to just buy a dog for myself and my kids. Sorry for the inconvenience and best of luck finding these wonderful animals a home.

From: The Rescue

Thanks for your email, and considering the adoption option :)

What other info are you looking for on B and S?

Before sending an application form, first we would like some more information from yourself - your knowledge of the breed and your knowledge of BSL? Thoughts on training, any info on lifestyle, feeding, etc The more info the better in regards to the pups future life with you!

Once we have received your reply, we will then forward you an adoption application. Once complete, we will review and hopefully arrange a time to conduct a phone interview. Once that is complete we require reference checks - personal, professional and veterinary, and then perform a home visit.

Making the best possible match for our dogs is our top priority!

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

The Rescue

Are you sure you are making the right decision?

Hello D,

Thank you again for your time yesterday evening.

Myself and my colleagues have reviewed your answers during the interview, and statements made in regards to items of concern that we discussed such as quality food (grain AND CORN FREE!), training, muzzling a dog in public (though there is no standing law to do so) break sticks etc, and we have decided we do not feel comfortable proceeding any further with your adoption of DogX.

Our decision is firm, and final in this matter.

Good luck in your search,

Regards, The Rescue

I'm sorry to disagree however I took your advice on all of those situations. I don't understand why the sudden concerns. I am a very responsible dog owner and am on board with all of your guidelines.

Please reconsider, I felt i was so close to finally finding the right dog for me = (

D

D,

You talked "over" me more than once during our conversation, and your answers and statements made even after my suggestions and responses did not satisfy myself nor my colleagues.

This is why we have this stage in the process. And our years of experience and success rate speak for themselves.

You have not even met DogX, so wether or not he is the right dog is a judgement based on appearance right now, the exact thing we fight against in terms of BSL.

Again, I thank you for your time, but as previously stated, our decision is very firm and final.

Regards, The Rescue

Never mind, rescuing an animal should not be so hard for an experienced dog owner with the backing of the SPCA. Although I feel totally pre-jugged, silly misunderstandings like this happen for a reason. High success rate or not, I feel hurt and thrown aside. I pray you find DogX the home he deserves.

I will find a beautiful dog to love no matter how many more years I have to search. When I do, I'll make sure that you know just how good of a home he or she has.

D

*it should be noted there was no SPCA reference of previous approval of adoption give/available at anytime in the application/interview, nor any history of volunteering.

(and a day or so later)

The food I talked about was recommended by my vet and available at pet smart. The practices we talked about are all practices that are all socially accepted in {my town} where there is a lot of
people who demand safety first. They are also found in all the bull breed car and training books I own.

I have done a lot of research and groundwork; however, it seems that you are looking for your own answers. If you have such strict standards; you should of just laid them out for me to follow. I know that you know best, but I didn't put years of research into looking for the right dog to be told that I am an unfit dog owner.

Nonetheless I have basis based publicly or socially accepted standards of conduct in the town where i live. DogX could of had an amazing caring home with us. I hope that he still finds one that would see he through the thick and the thin as much as I would. Lastly, I'm sorry for talking over you, I was simply excited about the phone call which I took during a business meeting for your convenience. I would also state that I never said no to any of your suggestions.

Are you sure you are making the right decision?

D

D,

Your phone interview time was pre-arranged DAYS in advance, you told me you were "at a friends house, how long will this take" and i offered to return the call at a more convienient time.

Frankly, the tone of these emails, after having politely declined your application, is becoming borderline harassment, and only further affirms our decision in not proceeding. Regardless of all your "research" you are not the caliber of adopter we would choose for one of our dogs. End of
story. We have a set process and protocol, and give the opportunity for potential applicants to provide us with the answers/knowledge etc deemed acceptable in adopting one of our dogs. Your phone interview fell quite short of this in several areas. We are not saying you are a unfit dog owner, just not what we want for one of our dogs over the long term.

At this time I will as you to cease all contact with The Rescue. As stated several times before, our decision is FIRM, and our decision is VERY FINAL.

Regards, The Rescue

Your "tone" (notice the quotation marks...) leaves much more to be desired.

DogX is available for adoption OUTSIDE of Ontario, etc.

This email came in EXACTLY like this. We did not edit the spelling or punctuation. (We're sure it goes with outside the law banning the breed has been in effect for SIX YEARS . . written in his adoption bio, etc etc. LOL)

hello im very interested in "dogx" cause i love dogs especially the pitbull mix.my brother has a male pitbull and he doesnt live nerby, and my other friend that i knew for 3yrs had a female..and she was always by my side since the first day i met her. im a natural leader which is important to have a good mannerd dog. i live in toronto (keele and sheppard) and at the moment im not driving my car so it would be hard to go to training classes cause i work during the day. i have trained my other friends dogs with basic commands (sit, stay, dont touch ... ) and i think i will be ok training him at home....theres also youtube if i do have any trouble or maybe weekends...i dont have a crate but i could get one. i dont mind letting him free in my house wen im at work or where ever i do have a gate i can put up so she cant get into the kitchen or i can also teach her shes not allowed in there which i plan to do when im cooking. i know im just another person but having her would make her the only person i can say is always there for me. cause i know dogs are not selfish and always there for the oowners unlike people even family.

Contribution - Allergies and Lies

my roomate got this dog off kijiji, and I'm allergic, the dog has to go. She tells me she has tried contacting rescues, but clearly she's lying to me because the dog is still here. When can you come pick the dog up? We tried giving it back to the owner, but they won't take it. He is afraid of men. I am locked in my room because my allergies are so bad...
